Cloud adoption

If the noise around cloud computing has passed to you, you've probably been somewhere that had no Internet, papers, radio or phone. But anyone who is not in a place like Guantánamo Bay certainly could not have missed all the great benefits of cloud computing. Sometimes it seems that everyone has been commissioned to shout the cloud. It's almost  a shame that most companies are still hesitant about the cloud and at best give it a try.

While most companies have to digest virtualization cloud marketers gradually begin to outvoice each other. Perhaps it's now a moment to listen to the market.

Why enterprises hesitate
Although there is a large proportion of the employees already in the 'free' cloud the companies they work for remain cold feet. According to a survey of ISACA almost half of the companies doubts whether the benefits are worth the risks. At best they are dipping their toes in the water by experience the 'private cloud' concept.
As cloud computing isn't mature yet the concerns about data security and loss of control are the main reasons of hesitation.

The weird part of this survey is in the respondents, where almost a quarter is in the IT consulting business. Always thought these are shouting the cloud to keep employment. Other large part is working in the financial sector, where a certain degree of conservatism is not surprising. So what's worth the survey?

The noise
9 out of 10 cloud presentations are about technology and scratch the surface for controls, security and governance at best. Service Level Agreements for Cloud computing are only about ensuring the engine is running. That passengers are on board and it goes in the right direction is of not the concern of the provider.

The lack of this information makes it difficult to make a good comparison. So even the survey isn't representative the doubt about cloud computing is reasonable. As virtualization didn't provide us all the benefits promised skepticism is the best attitude now.
